One Room Schoolhouse
One Room Schoolhouse – The earliest settlers of the area wanted their children to have the benefit of an education and with limited transportation; rural school houses dotted the countryside. Children would have walked, come on horseback or even in buggies to attend school in these one room structures. Most students in the 19th and early 20th centuries attended a one room schoolhouse where a single teacher taught multiple grades all at the same time. The teacher’s desk sits on a platform and the students sit on wooden desks with ink wells. This replica of a rural school house built with a generous donation from Corgan and Associates, provides a glimpse of how children were taught and learned in this area before the formation of independent school districts. The Frisco Association of Retired School Personnel has provided the period furnishings and developed programs for school aged children.
