|Maurice Edna (Cunningham) Cantrell was born in Sanger, Texas on December 21, 1917 and reared in Prosper, Texas. She graduated from Prosper High School in 1934 at the age of 16 and from Texas Woman’s University in 1938 at the age of 20. Maurice married Grady Cantrell of Frisco, Texas in 1938. She received her Masters Degree from Southern Methodist University in Administration and Supervision in 1953. She was a successful business woman and owner of numerous businesses in Frisco and Prosper with her husband. Maurice taught in Abernathy, Texas prior to moving to California. She taught in Berkley, California in the 1940’s and remained in contact with one of her students until the time of her death. Upon returning to Texas she taught kindergarten, first, second and third grade at Letot and Harry C. Withers Elementary in Dallas, Texas. She taught in Dallas from 1948 until 1982 when she retired. She is an honorary life member of the PTA of Dallas and a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Frisco in 1948 and spent many an hour with her sister and friends folding the Sunday programs each week for 10 years. Maurice became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Frisco #93 on February 22, 1949. She was Worthy Matron and her husband Worthy Patron of the Frisco Chapter #93 in 1956. She received her 50 year pin on April 13, 1999 and her 60 year pin in 2009. Maurice was the Cherished mother of Nan and mother-in-law to Jerry Jones of Frisco, Texas; adoring Mymaw to Jack M. Scott, III of London, Ontario, Canada, Charles H. Scott, Jr. and wife, Mary of Austin, Texas; treasured aunt to her nieces, great nieces and nephew and great great nieces. Maurice is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Grady Cantrell who passed away in 1964; her parents, Mazie and ET Cunningham; sisters, Bernice Dean and Rose Drees. She met each challenge in her path with grace and wisdom and it was the gift of herself that she gave to others. The family will receive friends at a Visitation to be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas beginning at 6:00 PM on Monday, September 27, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Frisco with Rev. Bill Meek officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.|
