Annual Art Contest – 2010

The Heritage Association of Frisco 2010 Annual Art and Multimedia Contest

Meet the 2010 Judges

Babes

Babe’s desire is to remind us of the Family Reunions of our youth. Ample portions of "home cooked" food is the most important attribute.

As Jan Bellamy of the Frisco Enterprise stated in her May 13th publication, “the Heritage Association of Frisco knows how to inspire young artists and connect them with their roots.”

This year’s theme, “Once Upon a Time: Exploring Our City’s Historical Markers” captured the hearts of the young and old alike. Many Heritage members attended the awards ceremony and were excited to see the students’ interpretations of the markers and the landmarks that the Association works so diligently to preserve. Student favorites included capturing the Frisco Water Tower, the Old High School and the Fletcher and Gordon Homes on Oak Street.

Bike Mart

A bicycle store with a great selection of road bikes, mountain bikes, bmx and kid's bikes to fit your cycling needs in Frisco! Now with three locations – Dallas, Richardson, and Frisco.

Held again at the the City Council Chambers, the Art & Media Awards Ceremony welcomed over 300 attendees on Tuesday, May 11th. Mayor Maso was in attendance and assisted in handing out awards with two of this year’s judges, Judy Isbell and Eilene Carver. He commented, “What a wonderful turnout! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the students and parents and seeing the art and media projected on the big screen.”

A tradition for over 10 years, the contest had over 650 entries and first place winners were selected from every elementary school, while first and second place winners were selected from both middle and high schools totaling over $2500 in cash awards. The multimedia portion included winners from Frisco High School and Wakeland High School.

Special thanks goes out to Richardson Bike Mart of Frisco and Babe’s Chicken Dinner House for co-sponsoring this event for a second year in a row. The Heritage Association also appreciates the support of the City and Tom Kraemer in showing off the students’ work in the Council Chambers. Thanks also goes out to Art & Media Contest Committee Members that made the event go so smoothly; and, of course, to Laverne Forwark, Eva Coleman, and all the inspiring FISD teachers and students. We would also like to send out a special thanks to our partners in publicity, like the Frisco Enterprise and Real Frisco. Your interest and continued support helped bring out the crowds!

Annual Art Contest – 2009

Art ContestThe Heritage Association of Frisco’s Annual Art Contest was a huge success this past Thursday, May 14th. Our sincere appreciation and thanks goes out to all the students, teachers, and administration staff of the FISD, to the Heritage Association of Frisco’s Board, Members and Volunteers, to our participating sponsors and to the City of Frisco. The Council Chambers was the ideal spot for the ceremony with its double screens allowing for the projection of the student’s artwork and microphones, which gave the students the special treat of announcing their own name and grade level as they received their award. Not only did the ceremony recognize and celebrate the talent of these 53 students and awarded $2,500 dollars in cash prizes, but also made mention of the teachers and instructors that inspired these young Picassos.

For the past eight years, the Heritage Association of Frisco has donated all the funds for the awards, but this year two outstanding companies, Babe’s Chicken Dinner House and Richardson Bike Mart of Frisco, kindly contributed to this special event with donations to benefit these talented and future artists. Twenty-seven elementary students were awarded with a first place certificate and $25. A total of eighteen first and second place certificates and a prize of $75 or $50 were awarded to middle school artists while high school students (8) received $100 or $75 and a certificate for their entries. Local Frisco judges and talent, including Artist – Misty Oliver Foster, Photographer – Craig Maccubbin, Journalist – Jane Whitledge, Video Producer – Marla Fields, and Illustrator, Larry Daste, had a difficult time choosing from the 585 entries that best reflected this year’s theme, “Frisco In Motion: Exploring Modes of Transportation Through Time”.

The Art Contest has been a tradition of the Heritage Association of Frisco for nine years now and is part of our mission of researching, preserving, and sharing our heritage within the community while inspiring the City’s youth. The winning artwork will be on display throughout the summer at the Heritage Museum and potentially within FISD Communications.

For more detailed information you may read the following media alert and review entry guidelines below.

The Heritage Association of Frisco greatly appreciates this year’s generous sponsors! For more information on making a donation and adding your name to those who wish to support the arts and also preserve our city’s heritage, please contact the Art Contest Committee.
