Private First Class Grover Ellis Turner (July 26, 1891 – May 27, 1952) was the son of George and Amanda Turner of Frisco and served in the United State Army during World War I from September 17, 1917 to March 18, 1919.  He was a part of the 39th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division.  The McKinney Courier-Gazette (July 7, 1919) stated that Grover was one of the first men in Collin County to enter military service for the war and was wounded in his left hand, resulting in the loss of his thumb.
